Client Installations
McCarran International Airport
Clark County Department of Aviation
P.O. Box 11005 Las Vegas, NV 89111
In April, 2003, the TransCore/GateKeeper team completed installation of a major new AVI system at Las Vegas. The system layout has 10 read location with more than 20 TransCore model 1200 readers and antennas. The system operates on both fiber optic and wireless LAN communication lines. Approximately 5,500 transponders are on vehicles using the system to track all categories of commercial vehicles and charge trip and dwell time fees. The system includes a web interface where commercial vehicle operators can access their trip charge information at their convenience and is one of the busiest dispatching and management systems in the world, with will over a quarter million transactions per month.

The LAX GTMS covers 48 lanes of traffic in the airport’s central terminal area and five remote lots. Installed in 1989, LAX’s current active tag base exceeds 20,000 tags and averages over 45,000 tag reads per day. The system provides a variety of billing collection functions by accurately monitoring entry and exits from the various traffic lanes. Specific revenue fee collection includes per-trip charges, on-airport dwell time, and a congestion-based pricing scheme. This configuration allows the system to effectively manage curbside congestion through penalties for operator abuse.
The system includes a traffic monitoring capability to provide the airport with accurate counts of all vehicular traffic using the airport through an in-ground loop system. The system shares data with various airport agencies via multiple terminals. TransCore provides turnkey support on the system via onsite-dedicated personnel, and LAX is linked to TransCore’s Dallas headquarters for near real-time backup of the system activity database. The LAX tag base is interoperable with the majority of the other airports in Southern California. TransCore provides similar AVI systems for Ontario International and the Burbank/Glendale/Pasadena airports.

ONT’s GTMS includes 17 lanes and provides tracking of more than 1,000 vehicles. The system provides accurate entry and exit records for fee collection and traffic management purposes. Installation of the initial system was completed in April 1992. More than 15,000 tags are in use for this taxi dispatch and ground transportation management application. System configuration and operational features are identical to the LAX system, which is where ONT’s host system is currently located. ONT’s tag population is interoperable with the other major Southern California airports that use AVI equipment. GateKeeper completed the CVM implementation at Ontario in August of 2005.

The scope of this project, completed in 2000, included the design, development, installation, testing, training, and continuing support of an AVI system for use with airport commercial vehicles and public parking. The project created 8 commercial vehicle entry and exit points using Amtech AI1200 readers. It also created 16 entry and exit points for parking patrons using Amtech SmartPass readers. Software installed included GateKeeper Systems Commercial Vehicle and Parking Access Control Software modules, Dynamics Accounting software (a product of Great Plains Software). A billing, accounting and automatic credit card processing interface was installed between the GateKeeper and Dynamics software.

This contract was completed in 1999 and provided for the design, development, installation, testing, training, and continuing support of an AVI system for use with airport commercial vehicles. The project utilized 2 entry and exit points equipped with Amtech AI1200 readers. Software provided included GateKeeper Systems Commercial Vehicle Software and Dynamics Accounting software. A billing and accounting interface was installed between the GateKeeper and Dynamics software.

Denver International Airport installed a new AVI GTMS when DIA opened in February 1996. DIA uses the system to monitor, track, and bill all commercial vehicle operators accessing DIA. The TransCore AVI system interfaces to DIA’s parking and revenue control system, manufactured by Trindel, to manage employee parking. The AVI system also interfaces to a third-party billing system from Durasys. The initial deployment consisted of 32 lanes of equipment and 2,200 tags. In the ensuing years, Airport growth has led to an expansion of the system to 55 lanes of equipment and more than 5,000 tags. The system averages more than 8,500 AVI transactions per day or approximately 3.1 million transactions annually. The tags in use at DIA are interoperable with other regional airports at Colorado Springs and Aspen, which have similar TransCore AVI technology deployed. TransCore and GateKeeper were selected in April of 2004 to perform a multi-year contract at DIA to upgrade the GTMS system software and upgrade the entire reader infrastructure at the airport.

In 2001 GateKeeper Systems participated in a project to provide a Commercial Vehicle Management System to the Airport. The system uses TransCore 1200 Readers, WaveWire wireless LAN, gated and open road read locations. The system is designed to track and charge all commercial vehicles using the airport. Charges include trip and dwell charges that are handled by Microsoft Dynamics accounting software that was provided by GateKeeper System as part of the project. The system contains 5 read locations and has special features to create a "free zone" where vehicles can wait without incurring a charge.

GSI provided replacement Commercial Vehicle Management software for a system of 22 readers utilizing SIRIT tags and readers in early 2002. This system had been operating for a number of years and had reached a point where the readers needed to be replaced. New equipment was not compatible with the exiting software. GateKeeper Systems provided the Silver edition of its Commercial Vehicle Management software that is configured for airports that are interested in limited functions to start, but want to have the capability to add more functions and capabilities at a later time.

TransCore installed the initial AVI system at San Diego in 1997 to provide GTMS to the single operational terminal. The system was composed of 6 lanes of equipment and approximately 2,000 tags. The tags are interoperable with all the other Southern California airports operating AVI systems. Beginning in 2000, the AVI system was expanded to address the new commuter terminal and relocated taxi hold lot, expanding the system size to 14 lanes of equipment supporting more than 5,000 active tags. At the end of 2002, The TransCore/GateKeeper team performed a complete software and computer hardware upgrade/change-out to the existing older VAX/VMS based software system.

Minneapolis, MN 55403-1326
The City of Minneapolis has selected GateKeeper System's Parking Access Control software as the standard vehicle access control software to be used in all of the city owned and/or operated parking facilities. This currently includes 21 parking facilities. The system will interface to the lot count system and their parking revenue control system to provide a comprehensive operating and reporting package. The Gatekeeper PAC software will provide control for all parkers enrolled in the "Rideshare" program for encouraging the use of car pools. An interface to Dynamics accounting software has been provided to handle the automated billing and payment functions. A website has been implemented to utilize broswer based informational reference as well as a Parking Reservation website designed for use by the public.
